Computer Speed Tweaks For the Computer Illiterate

As time goes by, your brand new computer would eventually slow down. There are easy computer speed tweaks that you can do. But before you start ranting about how difficult and complicated tweaking your system can be, let me first tell you that even someone with no background experience with computer tweaking would be able to handle these simple computer speed tweaks so don't worry too much.

The list below would give you an idea about what could be causing your computer to slow down. Read them and check if they really are the culprits. This isn't the most comprehensive list available on the internet but these are among the easiest computer speed tweaks out there. So if you're ready, here we go:

1. Defragment Your Hard Drive

Doing this would put back all your data in order. Because over time, the data on your hard drive gets scattered around, degfragmenting would help restore order thus making it easier for Windows to access it. Do you know what that means? That means you wont have to wait forever when trying to open a certain program and the performance of you PC would improve.

2. Scan Your Hard Disk

Did you experience a computer crash thus making it impossible for you to shut your computer down properly? Or have you experienced a power outage whilst using your PC? All these things could cause problems as well as damage your files. Windows comes equipped with a special utility called scandisk which would automatically find as well as fix much of the damage thus improving your PC's performance in the process.

3. Scan Your Computer for Viruses

Everyone knows the damage a virus can do to your computer so detecting as well as cleaning out viruses is one of the best computer speed tweak option out there. Simply choose a antivirus, there are many available on the internet, then download and run it on your computer.

4. Check Your Computer for Adware and Spyware

Spyware, just as its name suggests, acts like a spy for certain companies so that they could monitor which websites you're visiting. Why do they do that? I don't know. But the bad thing is not only can a Spyware monitor your computer, it can also access it. An Adware on the otherhand, is a software that displays unwanted advertisements. Both use a significant amount of your computer's resource thus slowing it down. Detecting and removing these things would improve your system performance, for sure.

5. Uninstall Unneeded Programs

Remove programs that you no longer have any use for. These would free up disk space and speed up computer performance. If you think deleting is enough, think again, you should properly uninstall them to see improvement.

6. Adjust Your Computer's Visual Effects for a Better Performance

Windows XP provides a lot of fun effects you can use such as animated windows and fun fading menus. But these effects, no matter how cool they may seem can cause your computer to slow down. So, don't abuse them and if you can live without them, don't use them at all.

7. Stop Programs from Launching themselves during Start-up

This is another great computer speed tweak. You simply disable programs which you don't really need during start up. Not only do these programs cause delay during windows start up, they will also continuously slow down your computer because they eat up a significant amount of your system's resources.

The things in the list might not seem much but doing those things would definitely improve your system's performance. So try them and see the change.
